SENSORY-FRIENDLY CARE
What is the FRAT test?
The FRAT® (Folate Receptor Autoantibody Test) is a blood test from ReligenDx that checks for autoantibodies to the folate receptor alpha. Doctors often order it as part of an autism or cerebral folate deficiency workup. Only a medical professional can prescribe it, and your doctor will explain what the results mean for your family.
"We were really nervous for the blood draw for our 5 year old boy with autism, but Evangela was so patient, sweet, and understanding. He is not an easy poke, but she did it professionally and with ease."

Why have your FRAT test drawn at home
Made for kids who find labs hard:
Many FRAT patients are autistic. Our draws are quiet, unhurried and sensory-friendly.
Same-day shipping:
We schedule the draw so the sample can go out by FedEx overnight the same day.
Handled exactly as the lab requires:
We collect, process and pack the sample following the FRAT kit instructions, so it isn't rejected.
No lab hunting:
Many local labs don't handle FRAT kits. You don't have to find one.
The process
How a FRAT test draw works
01
Get your prescription and kit
Your doctor prescribes the test and you request the kit from FRATnow. Delivery takes about 5–7 business days.
02
Book Monday to Thursday
The lab can't receive samples on weekends or holidays, so we draw early in the week.
03
A calm draw at home
We collect the sample gently, at your child's pace, with you close by.
04
Processed and shipped
We label, process and pack the sample, then send it overnight to the lab the same day.
FRAT test checklist: before your appointment
Follow your kit instructions and your doctor's advice. In short:
-
Have the kit at home and the requisition form completed and signed by your provider and you.
-
Freeze the kit's ice pack the day before the draw.
-
Ask your doctor about stopping folinic acid or 5-MTHF supplements. The lab's instructions say to stop them 48 hours before the draw.
-
Book a Monday–Thursday appointment, not before a holiday.
-
Give plenty of water the day before and the morning of the draw.
